Kit and Rucksack
A long-sleaved T-shirt or Rugby shirt
Sleeping bag + Foam roll / karrimat / Thermarest
A body warmer, thin jumper, sweatshirt, thin fleece, hoodie or another long-sleaved T-shirt
Tea towel – one between four of you. Fairy liquid. Tiny washing up bowl optional.
One T-shirt (worn) plus one change. Or – technical shirt(s) (i.e. the polyester ones that dry easily)
Whistle (emergency signal is 6 blasts, wait a minute, and repeat.)
Shorts or lightweight trousers. (Jeans are not good.)
Sun cream and sun glasses – check the forecast!
Scout scarf (—other uniform is optional.)
Survival bag
Spare underpants (one worn + 1 spare)
Mobile phone (1 between 2 is good)
Spare socks (one worn + 2 spare)
Light mug or bowl, cutlery depending on your menu
Hike boots or strong shoes
Torch each. (No need for spare batteries.)
Optional – tracky bottoms, maybe an extra T-shirt to wear at night. (Avoid PJ’s… useless in the day!)
Cash for a train or bus home, or to use a phone, or to buy food if needed.
Waterproof (coat certainly, trousers not really needed around here at this time of year.)
Personal first aid kit + tape for blisters and any personal medication
Hankies
Route plan, Compass, map and map case (1 between 2)
Personal washing requirements and towel. (Consider a facecloth towel combo, or a very small towel, or even a new chamois leather!)
Water bottle, at least 1ltr each. (Better to carry more than you need. Also, take some water for first aid use, even if you have other drinks.)
Hat – suitable for rain more than cold. Gloves etc probably not needed, but check the forecast.
Stove + fuel (1 or 2 Trangias for party of 4)
Penknife (if your Mum or Dad approves.)
Tent (with pegs, etc!)
Polythene bags (for dirty clothes)
Food! Meals AND snacks.
Sisal (Or string. Or fishing line or even dental floss. Or… insulating tape. For repairs!)
