Forward the 1st Histon!

Forward the 1st Histon!

There are three things that you need to do to succeed when doing an incident hike; have grit determination; have a good knowledge of scouting; and not to get lost in the middle of a few slightly hilly villages near Balsham.

Basically there were 30 odd teams of both Scouts and Guides, some chaperoned and others adult free, like us (Cameron, Ben, Andrew and Alistair.) At the beginning every team got given 5 grid references and we had to mark on each place on the map. After that we had to choose a route between them in which we would navigate through going to each checkpoint. Each of the 5 checkpoints were different, the 1st was observing, a bag with money and other random items were stolen and we had to remember what was in them. The 2nd checkpoint was about sucking up smarties with a straw from one bowl to the other. The 3rd was a mental activity that was very easy for some, (Alistair.) Checkpoint the 4th was a dramatised emergency where 3 people were all injured and we had to look after them using first aid. Finally the 5th knots, we got points for the difficulty of the knots we did but we had to do 30 Star Jumps to get a piece of rope. We were the 2nd team to finish so we went in charge of the two unmanned bonus checkpoints but we dramatically didn’t find them.
