Horner is a beautiful greenfield camp site in Exmoor National Park, nestled in a valley on a stream running straight down from Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor.
The camp will be relaxed, with time in the mornings available for badgework or points-based activities for the inter-patrol competition. Structured activities will mostly be in the afternoon (depending on length), and there will be wide-games every evening in the fabulous surrounding forest. Scouts will self-cater with gas stoves unless we need to be efficient for a specific activity. We will have one day in camp cooking entirely on open fires, and at least one excursion day out.
The boys wash in the stream in the mornings, will have a chance to build bridges over it, and hopefully fish it, dam it and swim in it depending on the National Trust's current view on the subject! (I don't mean to scare any girls from joining up and coming, by the way - I'm just addressing the current audience!)
Remember that Scouts can go up to Explorers between 14-14.5 years old, so be sure to decide whether you'll still be with us come summer 2009 :-)
