IVC, Histon, Impington, Sports Centre and village information
Hello! This is my evil and cynically devised page to suck search engines in. It's for all of you who are looking for information about IVC (Impington Village College) information like term times - or Impington Sports Centre information, like swimming or gym schedules or timetables. But, really, the gap in your lives is Scouting. You think you want sport. You go to school every day. You spend your evenings on your bikes, or playing footy, but what you really need is to get out a bit further. Climb some mountains. Cycle some bomb craters. Learn some new skills. Relax round a roaring fire. Meet more people in the village. Help with a local charity! :-)
Scouts is probably different to what you imagine. We have sections for all young people (girls and boys, young men and women) from 6-25 years old. From 14 years old, you can help us out running the shop. It's the best way to get a variety of adventure in your life.
For the record....
- We stopped the DYB DYB DYB stuff in 1970
- We became fully co-ed in the 1990s. The Guides don't mind too much.... we're different, more outdoorsy.
- Nationally, slightly more than 50% of new members are now female each year
- We made the Daily Mail for our wild parties in Summer 2009 (18-25 section)
- Yes you do get to meet Bear Grylls
- Yes, you can learn survival skills, if you want
Since early 2008, we have....
- Climbed mountains
- Built rafts
- Done many hours of Kayaking (Canoeing)
- Ridden many miles on mountain bikes, road bikes and BMX through all sorts of terrain
- Hiked hundreds of man-miles
- Shot a lot of arrows... archery
- Climbed multiple climbing walls
- Taken part in Histon Feast, Histon Schools Fireworks, Carols on the Green, Remembrance, Histon Greening projects, Histon Brook Clearance and environmental stuff
- Built bridges
- Build and eaten round BBQs, fires
- Done all that camping stuff that you already figured we did
- Won district competitions
- Been karting ("go karting" if you like.)
- Played a whole load of "wide games"... war games, strategy games, emergency simulations games, team games, in fields and villages
- Grown in numbers by 20%
In 2010, we expect to....
- Go on a week's narrowboat trip
- Run an Adventure Race - think triathlon with incidents, navigation and orienteering
- Climb real rockfaces
- Climb much higher mountains
- Go caving
- see you when you join :-)
Have a look around the site. We'd love to see you!
