Archaeological Breakthrough

Archaeological Breakthrough At Histon Scout Hut

“Senior Patrol Leader”. Noone knows what it means. But sometimes, when a Patrol Leader feels all important and seems to have done everything that can be done with his patrol, we’ll promote him to this mysterious rank. And it’s up to him to work out what to do with his new position.
Some of you may remember a Scout called Cameron Dalziel. Well, after his promotion, he started an expedition into the Scout Cupboards in the back corner of the hut. We all thought he’d quit Scouts at Christmas, but no. Cam never left the Cupboard. It went back for miles, deep underground, containing the lovingly interred bones of long-dead Scouts of the past. But Cam got stuck! While he was inside, he grew another centimetre taller and couldn’t get back through the entrance. He spent the last two months without food or water, surviving only by sucking dew out of his scarf. But he emerges triumphant!

Mountains

Mountains

Everyone remembers their first mountain. Climbing mountains is more just just part of Scouting. It’s one of those things everyone should do before they die. And some of us like to do it again and again. Welcome to Dunkery Beacon.

• Started Hike
• Looked at side turning, saw parents watching us from Rampton Green – Yelled to parents saying “We’re watching you too!” (Fortunately the parents didn’t hear this!)

• We found Giant’s Hill

Triumphant Return to District Level Competition

Now, we were never going to win. Not against the kid in the long pants and the 6ft, 14yr old Scouts. But I had Scout Leaders welcoming us back into the gala. I am taking great pride in my swim team, lads. Very well done.

Samuel Clarke (Captain): Massive organising effort, and knock-em-dead team talks. Kept placing, like, fourth, in his heats, just behind the club swimmers. Gah!

Forward the 1st Histon!

Forward the 1st Histon!

There are three things that you need to do to succeed when doing an incident hike; have grit determination; have a good knowledge of scouting; and not to get lost in the middle of a few slightly hilly villages near Balsham.

Pioneering Sucks, Right?

Pioneering Sucks, Right?

Everybody hates pioneering. It’s a funny word for tying sticks together with bits of rope. The Scout Leaders seem to think it’s important, and they make us sit around for hours and hours and tell us to tie knots. It’s a bit boring. And at Patrol Leaders’ camp they made us build an Alarm Clock Tower.

Table Top Brook

First the people that turned up. Five scouts turned up, they were (in time order) Cameron, Me (Adam), Alistair, Andrew and, at 10:15, 45 minutes after we started was Kevin. At exactly 9:30 we had a safety briefing which was slightly boring and we were divided into groups.

Kingfisher WIN.

We’ve sifted back through all the old patrol records in the patrol boxes. We’ve talked to all the old patrol librarians. We’ve looked for remains under the hut. Apparently no Patrol Leader has ever organized an over-nighter. Evar. Until now. On 21st December 2008, Cameron Dalziel, Stempy & Alistair started in WIllingham and spent the day in icy 12˚C conditions, as they hiked through the treacherous fenland tracks to Rampton.
