Scout branded wording
Hi All,
Quick question, I notice a lot of people using the new angled text for group names etc. Is there a generator for this or does it need to be done manually?
Am in the process of writing subs letters and would like to brighten up an otherwise sad piece of paper!
Cheers
Alex

[New] Non-uniformed adult volunteers
Back in May 2009 I asked about this and got a very good and comprehensive answer and some of this has been visible. However I am concerned there is still no central system of record of what training a non-uniformed member has done equivalent to that for uniformed members.
I think it would be fairly easy to extend the current system and, when the central committee eventually puts some thoughts together, to put recommended modules on the planner just as they are there for SL's.
It would also show bodies like the Charity Commission how we are working to make our Trusteeship more professional and evidenced.

Trees
It's in the back of my mind that BP had a selection of Trees that we should be able to recognise in summer and in winter (bit like the set of knots we should know)
Does anyone know of any resources that I can use for a Troop night to get them learning. We have several trees around our hut that they can try to identify for a start.

[New] How long for an answer?
Wayne,
We keep hearing about the wonderful resources that Scouting has to support its Leaders - and we are certainly overwhelmed by factsheets. However, there are times when we need more than a factsheet.
For example, I am trying to make contact with Scouts abroad and am really struggling. Pat Gilks gave me a couple of UK contacts whom I e-mailed with requests for help. The e-mails have not bounced back so I presume that they have arrived.
I also emailed the UK contact for Lands of Adventure, as suggested on the Lands of Adventure site, 10 days ago asking for some information. I still await a response - even an "I am out of the office" would be better than nothing.
By contrast, the application for LoA sent to the European Scout Office saw our details loaded on the LoA site the next day! However, before we get the badges to start off the challenge the European office needs a response from the UK Ambassador.
How long should we expect to have to wait before someone who has taken on an official role in Scouting makes a response?
I endeavour to respond within 24 hours, as you know, usually much quicker than that. What is the SA guidance? How long should I wait before writing of the enquiry as a dead end?

[New] Supporting role changes
Wayne
I've recently read on the forum, and had conversations locally, with leaders who are taking on new roles (i.e. becoming an ADC or CSL).
Having had a look on the association website but unable to locate anything (maybe I'm just not looking in the right place) I wonder what resources and support we offer.
I'm specifically thinking of guidelines (or check list) for the previous role-holder and the new incumbent to use to help a smooth transition.
In addition, I'm sure that on some circumstances the change could be seen by the person leaving the role as "forced" - even though the review process will have been used - so any handover can be a difficult affair.
Can you offer any insight?

New Centenary Badge Put Down
1st Bridgend revealed its new Group Badge last night at a District Meating. We actually tourned 100 last year and the badge has the Crest of Lord Roberts on and the date of our founding 1909. We thought we'd put it in Latin. Never try and be posh as one leader asked me who MCMIX was, was he Scottish!!

Becoming Akela!
Just a quick one, I'm taking over as cub leader as of tomorrow, and I've been told I have to be Akela as all cun leaders are, and currently I am Kaa. I'm not taking over from anybody, the pack has not had an Akela for several years, just a leader who was willing to keep the pack running but not be cub leader,
How do I explain to my cubs that they now have to call me Akela and I'm not Kaa anymore? Or can I actually just stay as Kaa?
Is this another 'local rule' or is it actually a rule?
How have other people who have changed roles done this?
Thanks!

'The Ruff Guide to being a Patrol Leader'
On re-reading some old books trying to come up with some ideas for a PL Camp I am organising in a few months time, I come across several references (even in recently updated factsheets) to a resource called 'The Ruff Guide', which it says is available from the Resource Centre at Gilwell Park.
Before I email the Info Centre to ask, does anyone have a copy or remember this resource?
Thanks.
Bob

Leaders Children & £££
I wonder if you can help me out by sharing the policies of your group when it comes to paying for leaders children.
Subs
Camps
How much do you charge for leaders children who are in the section?
How much do you charge for leaders children who are not in the section?
Do your leaders pay anything themselves? If so, what percentage?
Do you keep your policies quiet or do all your parents know?
Thanks

Joomla Help Nedded
Hi all,
I use Joomla to manage my Group's website, it is currently at Version 1.5.15, and this is out of date. When I setup Joomla, I had auto instaled by my webhosting providers. I would now need to update it to the latest version that is V1.5.20, is there way to upgrade from 1.5.15 to 1.5.20, if so can anyone help, as I am scared of messing up the website big time when I upgrade my Joomla.
Anyone wish to help?

Electronics Badge
Am thinking of doing the electronics badge.
Obviously I have lots of ideas myself, but it would be silly not to ask here if you guys can point me to any ready made resources that I can tap into.
Particularly:
source of cheap components?
suitable circuits?

[Wanted] Camp recipes wanted
Hi
I am thinking of putting together a camp recipe book as part of Jamboree 2011 fundraising. Would anyone be prepared to provide a recipe? Anything from something on a stick to something fancy! Full credit would be given.
Thanks
Dianne
