The victory of humans over rabbits.

It is a well known fact that large animals are better at surviving than smaller creatures. However, while the larger scouts Alistair, Kevin, Rachel and Alex F. were outside being useless and non survival-ish, the small scouts Graeme and James were exerting their survivalism upon poor defenceless bunnies. Based on this evidence, and evolution, I can conclude that a million years from now, the human race is going to end up, on average, two feet tall.

Just a thought.

Alistair signing off.

Hey, that's pretty good, guys! "Attitude" came 6th in the county, "Mutiny" came 24th. (BTW mutineers, with 50 extra points, you'd have been 21st.)

Gonna award 1pt extra per "Attitude" member. That makes 1pt each for Hawks, Owls, Falcons, and 3pts for Kingfishers. All the points have now been updated as of 9th March. Check em out top right on the home page. Swifts back in the lead :-)

Kingfisher becomes beatable! OMG!!

Well done everyone who took part in FORWARD. Points may be available on top if either team won.... results not yet in.

In other news, Kingfisher will be losing points for two incidents, mobile phone and organizers' radio abuse. Numbers tomorrow on troop night. Swifts COULD be back in the lead!!

Scouts and Guides and the Community Woodland Project

Beavers, Cubs, Scout and Guides turned out with the community to plant the brand new woodland on New Road on Saturday. 3000 trees were planted during the day, and contractors have almost finished the balance after that amazing start. The Scout badge system includes environmental elements, and community elements and Scouts are strongly encouraged to take part in this kind of project.

OMG behind on points! What does an ambitious Scout patrol have to do to win??

Scout Hymn

Now as I start upon my chosen way,
In all I do, my thoughts, my work, my play,
Grant as I promise, courage new for me
To be the best, the best that I can be.

Open mine eyes to see things as I should,
That I may do my daily turn of good,
Let me be ready, waiting for each need
To keep me clean in thought and word and deed.

So as I journey on my chosen way,
In all I do, my thoughts, my work, my play,
Grant as I promise, courage new for me,
To be the best, the best that I can be.

I like to give you options, kids.

Let's say you were Swifts, and needed 15 points to catch up. You could do that if Becky joined (5pts for CUSAGC), plus Alex pulled his finger out and got his Adventure Challenge (10pts). Easy!

Let's say you were Owls and need 15 points to catch up. I'm offering 15pts for the whole patrol finishing up next week's meeting by singing the traditional Scout Hymn (see box on the right). The original tune is horrible, but it works to the tune of "Tell Out My Soul", which is much nicer.

Suppose you were Falcons - an excellent patrol, but very young, and dragged down by people being ill for a couple of weeks. How to make up 25pts.... well, that would be just one patrol activity outside Scout time, at 5pts per patrol member turning up. Easy :-)

As a Hawk though, you're probably already thinking about the Community Bus, or maybe just sitting at home with the PlayStation on Monday nights. I mean, 45pts down, it's impossible, isn't it? Ahhhaa! No!! Just three of you on a patrol camp, at 15pts per person will fix that. One of you needs to save the day and organize a camp. It's the only way to save face! I believe in you guys :-)

See you all Monday. And remember.... we're on just week 3 of at least a 12 week competition.

Archaeological Breakthrough

Archaeological Breakthrough At Histon Scout Hut

“Senior Patrol Leader”. Noone knows what it means. But sometimes, when a Patrol Leader feels all important and seems to have done everything that can be done with his patrol, we’ll promote him to this mysterious rank. And it’s up to him to work out what to do with his new position.
Some of you may remember a Scout called Cameron Dalziel. Well, after his promotion, he started an expedition into the Scout Cupboards in the back corner of the hut. We all thought he’d quit Scouts at Christmas, but no. Cam never left the Cupboard. It went back for miles, deep underground, containing the lovingly interred bones of long-dead Scouts of the past. But Cam got stuck! While he was inside, he grew another centimetre taller and couldn’t get back through the entrance. He spent the last two months without food or water, surviving only by sucking dew out of his scarf. But he emerges triumphant!

New Explorer Scout Unit for Histon!

In 2001, The Scout Association was losing members. And the biggest problem was Venture Scouting; something was going wrong with Scouting above the age of about fourteen. With small groups, increasing exam pressure and a disconnect when students left for University, the old formula wasn't working.

Venture Scouting was replaced with the Explorer Scout section. We've been building back up nationally since then, with a great new formula. And Explorer Scouting has now come to Histon. The new "Panther" Explorer Scout Unit, operating in conjunction with 2nd Cottenham Scouts, started on Friday, with a stunning turnout, of ex-Scouts, Guides and their mates. It was so good, there's even hope of running in exam term!
